INTRODUCTION:
- Disasters and emergencies are critical situations where there is a danger to people, infrastructure (e.g. transport, energy, information technology) or the environment. They include natural disasters (e.g. thunderstorms, floods) but also man-made disasters and conflicts (e.g. accidents, terrorism).
- IT support can help to prevent such kind of critical situation and to improve the management. IT can improve the coordination between the forces involved and can speed up processes to facilitate situational awareness. However, at the same time experiences indicate that the use of IT as an operational tool might imply an increased perception of complexity.
- This special issue will focus on the specific challenges and technical implications for IT in this environment, as well as on findings regarding the development and research methodologies used to create, to validate and to evaluate solutions. We are interested in both approaches that focus on supporting the rescue and care of a single person and approaches that deal with broad IT support in crisis and continuity management. Both aspects can be of great relevance, for example, in large-scale emergency situations when operations of different organizations and authorities quickly leads to a complex situation for individual actors (e.g. emergency physicians) and management positions (e.g. a command post).
- A quick overview of the situation and an efficient, on demand exchange of information between the parties involved are goals that are to be achieved by appropriate technical solutions and (IT) equipment before, during and after crises and emergencies. We expect that the escalation of situations, the interoperability on organizational and technological levels as well as interfaces between daily routines and operations are amongst the fundamental challenges to be solved.
SUBMISSION PROCEDURE:
- Researchers and practitioners are invited to submit papers for this special theme issue. All submissions must be original and may not be under review by another publication. INTERESTED AUTHORS SHOULD CONSULT THE JOURNAL’S GUIDELINES FOR MANUSCRIPT SUBMISSIONS at http://www.igi-global.com/journals/guidelines-for-submission.aspx. All submitted papers will be reviewed on a double-blind, peer review basis. Papers must follow APA style for reference citations.
- Authors should use our obligatory Template.
- Authors submitting to this special issue declare automatically to be willing to write two reviews for IJISCRAM submissions.
ABOUT:
The International Journal of Information Systems for Crisis Response and Management (IJISCRAM) is an academically rigorous outlet for research into crisis response and management. It focusses on the design, development, implementation, use and evaluation of IS technologies and methodologies to support both crisis response and management. It explores issues critical to the application of IS to crisis response and management. This journal covers all aspects of the crisis management information systems discipline, from organizational issues to technology support to decision support and knowledge representation. High quality submissions are encouraged using any qualitative or quantitative research methodology, focusing on the design, development, implementation, use, and evaluation of such systems.
The mission of the International Journal of Information Systems for Crisis Response and Management (IJISCRAM) is to provide an outlet for innovative research in the area of information systems for crisis response and management. Research is expected to be rigorous but can utilize any accepted methodology and may be qualitative or quantitative in nature. The journal will provide a comprehensive cross-disciplinary forum for advancing the understanding of the organizational, technical, human, and cognitive issues associated with the use of information systems in responding and managing crises of all kinds.
This journal is an official publication of the Information Resources Management Association
