We are pleased to congratulate our PEASEC graduate Martin Hagemeier on receiving the Award for Outstanding Scientific Achievement from the Association of Friends of TU Darmstadt (Vereinigung von Freunden der Technischen Universität zu Darmstadt e.V.) for his master’s thesis.
His thesis, Hidden Connections, Visible Risks: Developing a European Risk Assessment for Submarine Data Cables, was supervised by Jonas Franken and Prof. Dr. Dr. Christian Reuter at the PEASEC research group. It addresses the resilience of Europe’s subseadata cable infrastructure by developing a risk assessment methodology for identifying vulnerable regions and potential cascading effects. Building on this work, the results have since been extended into a scientific publication that will be presented at SAFECOMP 2026:

The award has been presented during the Department of Computer Science’s graduation ceremony on 19.06.2026 and includes a certificate, a €500 prize, and a one-year membership in the Association of Friends of TU Darmstadt. Founded in 1918, the Association of Friends of TU Darmstadt supports excellence in research, teaching, education, and innovation at TU Darmstadt. With around 2,200 members and 70 corporate partners, it promotes the exchange between academia, industry, and society while fostering young talent and strengthening long-term connections with the university.
