We are celebrating 10 completed and successfully defended doctoral theses at Science and Technology for Peace and Security (PEASEC), Technical University of Darmstadt. They develop insights and innovative solutions in the fields of cyber security and privacy, human-computer interaction and peace and conflict research.

Our first 10 dissertations explore the field of peace informatics, including studies on the governance of (in)security in international relations (Schmid), the de-escalation of state-led cyber conflicts (Reinhold), and the assessment of dual-use ICTs (Riebe). Additionally, they address crisis informatics, focusing on information refinement (Kaufhold), digital self-organization in crises (Haesler), citizen engagement in public safety (Haunschild), and the navigation of misinformation (Hartwig). Finally, the research covers usable security and privacy, examining privacy-preserving data management (Linsner), crisis-capable ICTs in agriculture (Kuntke), and deep learning for cybersecurity (Bayer).

Here is an overview of our first 10 dissertations:

  1. 2020: Dr. rer. nat. Marc-André Kaufhold – “Information Refinement Technologies for Crisis Informatics”
  2. 2022: Dr. rer. nat. Thea Riebe – “Technology Assessment of Dual-Use ICTs”
