We are proud to announce that our research teams from Technische Universität Darmstadt will be presenting four full papers at the prestigious ACM Conference on Human Factors in Computing Systems (CHI) 2025. Notably, two of these papers have been honored with the Honorable Mention recognition, placing them among the top 5% of submissions.
The CHI conference is the premier A* venue for Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) research, bringing together top scholars and practitioners worldwide to advance the field.
Honorable Mention Papers of PEASEC:
- “Towards Youth-Sensitive Hateful Content Reporting: An Inclusive Focus Group Study in Germany”
Authors: Julian Bäumler, Helen Bader, Marc-André Kaufhold, Christian Reuter
Abstract: This study explores how young individuals in Germany perceive and report hateful content online. Through inclusive focus groups, the research identifies key factors that influence reporting behaviors and suggests improvements to current reporting mechanisms to better cater to the youth demographic.
DOI: 10.1145/3706598.3713542 - “The User Perspective on Island-Ready 6G Communication: A Survey of Future Smartphone Usage in Crisis-Struck Areas with Local Cellular Connectivity”
Authors: Leon Janzen, Florentin Putz, Marc-André Kaufhold, Kolja Straub, Matthias Hollick
Abstract: Focusing on crisis-struck regions with isolated cellular networks, this paper presents a survey on anticipated smartphone usage patterns in the context of emerging 6G technologies. The findings offer insights into user needs and expectations, informing the development of resilient communication infrastructures for such scenarios.

Additional Accepted Papers of PEASEC:
- “Cyber Threat Awareness, Protective Measures and Communication Preferences in Germany: Implications from Three Representative Surveys (2021-2024)”
Authors: Marc-André Kaufhold, Julian Bäumler, Marius Bajorski, Christian Reuter
Abstract: Based on three representative surveys conducted between 2021 and 2024, this paper examines the state of cyber threat awareness among German citizens, their adoption of protective measures, and their preferences for receiving cybersecurity information. The study provides valuable insights for policymakers and cybersecurity professionals aiming to enhance public cyber resilience.
DOI: 10.1145/3706598.3713795 - “A Qualitative Investigation of User Transitions and Frictions in Cross-Reality Applications”
Authors: Julius von Willich, Frank Nelles, Wen-Jie Tseng, Jan Gugenheimer, Sebastian Günther, Max Mühlhäuser
Abstract: This qualitative study delves into the challenges users face when transitioning between different realities in cross-reality applications. By identifying common frictions and user experiences, the research offers design recommendations to create more seamless and intuitive cross-reality interactions.

These achievements build upon our previous submissions at CHI. In 2023, our study on smartphone authentication received the Best Paper Award (peasec.de). In 2024, our research on situational awareness was also honored with a Best Paper Award (peasec.de). Now, in 2025, we are very happy about double Honorable Mentions!
Overall, the HCI groups at TU Darmstadt, collectively known as “teamdarmstadt,” have had a total of nine full papers accepted for CHI 2025. For more details on these and other publications, please visit www.teamdarmstadt.de.
We look forward to contributing to the CHI 2025 conference and sharing our latest research findings with the global HCI community.
