PEASEC is proud to announce the publication of three full papers at the prestigious ACM CHI Conference on Human Factors in Computing Systems (CHI), held in Honolulu, USA. Recognized as the leading international conference on Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), CHI 2024 had an overall acceptance rate of 26.4% for the Papers track, highlighting the significant achievement of our team. The paper „We Do Not Have the Capacity to Monitor All Media: A Design Case Study on Cyber Situational Awareness in Computer Emergency Response Teams“ received a best paper award: See this post on the Cyber Threat Observatory for more details (available in German only).
Many researchers from Darmstadt, collectively known as „TeamDarmstadt„, attended the conference, representing various research groups and demonstrating the strong presence and collaborative spirit of our academic community. Five members of the PEASEC team attended the conference in person, while two others presented their work online. Our contributions spanned critical discussions on misinformation, privacy and security, and online activism and suppression, reflecting the diverse and impactful nature of our research. The week-long conference, hosted at the Convention Center in Honolulu , brought together over 3000 scholars from universities worldwide to discuss the latest trends in HCI. Beyond paper presentations, the conference featured interactive workshops, job events, and participation from major tech firms like Google and Apple. Notably, the conference also included simulation nights showcasing practical applications of emerging technologies such as 3D printing. PEASEC’s research on misinformation on TikTok and digital violence received particular attention, emphasizing an underexplored yet crucial aspect of HCI. Our team’s critical insights into this area underscored the importance of addressing topics related to peace and security, contributing valuable perspectives to the broader HCI community.
We look forward to continuing our work in this dynamic field and are excited about the future innovations and collaborations that will stem from this conference.
