Together with Daniel Lambach and Carlo Diehl, PEASEC’s Stefka Schmid and Christian Reuter have published an article on the “geopolitical innovation race” of AI in Geopolitics.
Competition in AI innovation is a timely topic, given current developments of AI such as ChatGPT or Deepseek. While prior works have debated on an AI “arms race”, our article finds that there is a middle ground in which opportunities for transnational cooperation exist, but are rarely used; innovation is seen as a contribution to national security; economic and security interests are mixed with status motivations; AI is presented as a key technology for national prosperity.
With over 1,000 views in the first weeks after publication the article is trending and various news outlets, such as The Conversation, have referred to it.
